HARMONAID COMMUNITY GUIDELINES

Building a Safe, Respectful, and Supportive Learning Community

Effective Date: January 1, 2026
Last Updated: December 20, 2025

1. INTRODUCTION

Welcome to HarmonAId! We're building a peer-to-peer tutoring marketplace where college students help each other succeed academically. Our community thrives on mutual respect, academic integrity, and genuine support for one another's learning journeys.

These Community Guidelines establish the standards of behavior expected from all users—whether you're a student seeking tutoring, a peer tutor sharing your knowledge, or both. By creating an account and using HarmonAId, you agree to follow these guidelines.

Who These Guidelines Apply To:

  • All students seeking tutoring
  • All peer tutors offering tutoring services
  • Anyone participating in the HarmonAId platform in any capacity

2. OUR CORE VALUES

2.1 Academic Integrity

HarmonAId is a learning tool, not a shortcut to bypass academic work. We support genuine understanding and skill development.

2.2 Mutual Respect

We treat every community member with dignity, regardless of their academic level, background, learning style, or pace.

2.3 Safe Learning Environment

Everyone deserves to learn in a space free from harassment, discrimination, and inappropriate behavior.

2.4 Honest Communication

We value transparency, honesty, and constructive feedback in all our interactions.

5. ACADEMIC INTEGRITY GUIDELINES

5.1 What HarmonAId IS For

  • Understanding difficult concepts and theories
  • Learning problem-solving strategies and approaches
  • Reviewing material before exams
  • Getting feedback on drafts and work-in-progress
  • Developing study skills and learning techniques
  • Building confidence in challenging subjects

5.2 What HarmonAId IS NOT For

  • Getting answers to homework, quizzes, or exams
  • Having someone complete your assignments
  • Circumventing your university's academic policies
  • Gaining an unfair advantage over classmates

5.3 The Line Between Help and Cheating

Acceptable:

  • "Can you explain how integration by parts works?"
  • "I'm stuck on this type of problem. Can we work through a similar example?"
  • "Can you review my essay outline and give me feedback on my thesis?"

NOT Acceptable:

  • "Here's my homework assignment. Can you solve problems 1-10?"
  • "I have an exam tomorrow. Can you give me the answers to these practice questions?"
  • "Can you write this paper for me? I'll pay extra."

When in Doubt: If you're unsure whether requesting help violates your university's academic integrity policy, ask your professor or check your course syllabus before proceeding. HarmonAId cannot override your institution's policies.

6. REPORTING VIOLATIONS

6.1 How to Report

If you experience or witness behavior that violates these guidelines:

  • Use the "Report" button in any conversation or profile
  • Email our Trust & Safety team at safety@harmonaid.ai
  • Include as much detail as possible (screenshots, dates, usernames)

6.2 What Happens Next

  • Our Trust & Safety team reviews all reports within 24-48 hours
  • We conduct thorough, impartial investigations
  • We maintain confidentiality throughout the process
  • We take appropriate action based on our findings

6.3 Protection from Retaliation

We strictly prohibit retaliation against anyone who reports violations in good faith. Retaliating against a reporter is itself a serious violation that will result in account suspension or termination.

7. CONSEQUENCES FOR VIOLATIONS

We take violations seriously. Consequences depend on the severity and frequency of the violation.

7.1 Warning

For minor first-time violations, we may issue a formal warning explaining the violation and expected behavior change.

7.2 Temporary Suspension

For moderate violations or repeated minor violations, we may temporarily suspend your account (typically 7-30 days).

7.3 Permanent Ban

The following violations result in immediate permanent ban:

  • Completing assignments or exams for other students
  • Sexual harassment or unwanted romantic/sexual advances
  • Threats, violence, or severe harassment
  • Hate speech or severe discrimination
  • Fraud or payment system abuse
  • Doxxing or sharing private information
  • Creating multiple accounts after suspension

7.4 Additional Consequences

In cases involving academic dishonesty or illegal activity, we may:

  • Report the incident to your university
  • Cooperate with law enforcement as required
  • Withhold payment or issue refunds as appropriate

8. APPEALS PROCESS

If you believe a decision was made in error, you may appeal by emailing appeals@harmonaid.ai within 14 days of the decision. Include:

  • Your account username
  • The date of the decision
  • Why you believe the decision was incorrect
  • Any supporting evidence

Appeals are reviewed by a different team member than the original decision-maker. You will receive a final decision within 7 business days.

9. SAFETY TIPS

9.1 Protect Your Personal Information

  • Don't share your phone number, personal email, or social media accounts unless you're comfortable doing so
  • Use the platform's built-in messaging for initial communications
  • Never share financial information beyond the secure payment system
  • Be cautious about sharing your class schedule or campus location details

9.2 Meeting for In-Person Sessions

If you choose to meet in person:

  • Meet in public places (library, campus coffee shop, study room)

  • For first meetings, bring a friend or meet during busy hours

  • Use video conferencing platforms you're comfortable with
  • Don't feel pressured to turn on your camera if you're not comfortable
